Wheel of Fortune- This picture demonstrates how an average, and maybe not so beautiful, object can look ever so elegant under the correct lighting and under the right circumstance. It gets it's title because zoomed in this ordinary kitchen utensil resembles a shiny and beautiful wheel of some sort. I intentionally zoomed in so it is not as obvious to tell what the object is. The artificial lighting was coming from above so part of the area was shaded with contrasts with the white sheet and the bright light. The entire photo is in focus so the detail of things like the rigid edges of the wheel really pop out. This is my personal favorite photo because the lighting at the top of the photo and the glare on the wheel make it seem like an object of importance and reminds me of a wheel on a shiny car.
Master of the Locks- This simple lock is made into something more in this picture. I zoomed in to make the viewer focus in on the details in the lock. The outside light to the right of this picture contrasts with the darkness on the left. The lock is in focus while the background is blurry, which was done specifically to highlight the lock. I chose this picture because when I took it I wondered what such a common item would look like in focus and to my delight it looked extraordinary.
To Infinite and Beyond- Angle is everything. In this picture of a tree in my backyard the bottom of the picture is blurred while the rest is clear. I pointed the camera upwards while standing right against the tree. I did this to make a unique angle and capture a view of the tree one does not commonly see. I like this picture because the angle used alludes the viewer that the tree is endless when in actuality it does end.
A Crack in the Road- The theme behind this photo is nature versus man because the weeds are growing in the crack of the asphalt. I got at a very low angle for this photo so I could be at eyelevel with the weeds. In this picture the foreground is blurry. the middle ground is in focus, and the background is also blurry. I used the rule of thirds in this picture so that the focus remained on the weeds but the asphalt actually took up more of the picture. I chose this picture because the meaning behind it is as interesting as the actual picture.
Below Zero- This picture was taken at the bottom of the steps to the entrance of my house facing my front yard and the street. There is a large aperture in this picture as you can see by the whole picture being in focus. The foreground is the snow in front of the bricks, the middle ground is the yard itself, and the background is my neighbors house and yard. I got at a very low level to take this picture. I like this picture because it captures the winter weather and takes on the perspective of a animal in the snow.
Staircase to Heaven- This picture was taken in my backyard. I was at the bottom of the staircase in this picture looking upwards. Lines are everywhere in this picture, both horizontal from the stairs and side of the house and vertical from the railing. The same examples of lines are also examples of pattern. everything in this picture is in focus. I chose this picture because its strong sense of repetition and the bright light shinning from the top.
